Dr Naoise Mc Sweeney
Dr. Mc Sweeney was awarded his PhD in Engineering by University College Cork in 2013 for his work on optical high-speed data communications. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and several patents. He has held positions as a Research Fellow in Aston University, Birmingham and Commercial Manager and Senior Engineer in Electromagnetic Technologies Ltd., Cork, Ireland. He is currently a Research Fellow in the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) in the area of mechanical engineering to innovate sustainable and highly efficient heating and ventilation solutions for the Galway based ProAir Ltd. He has previously worked in AT&T Bell Labs, New Jersey, USA and Analog Devices Ireland, along with collaborations with companies such as BT, Coriant, Alcatel Lucent and many others. He is the recipient of the highly competitive EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship for his research efforts and his interests include electronic engineering, photonics, communications, RF, electromagnetic interference compatibility and scientific outreach. He is currently a member of the Irish National Technical Committee (TC16) which examines proposed European standards in the area of Electromagnetic Compatibility. He has also conducted reviews for several journal publishers including Springer Nature and the Royal Society along with awards from SPIE and the Optical Society of America (OSA) for lectures delivered at the Australian National University (ANU) and the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
